Flaxseed oil is derived from the seeds of the flax plant. Flaxseed is a seed derived from a plant called linum usitatissimum. 

Flaxseed oil comes from polyunsaturated fatty acids like alpha-linolenic acid. The alpha-linolenic acid found in the oil is believed to decrease the experience of inflammation. It is available in liquid and soft gel capsules.

Flaxseed oil can be used to treat a plethora of conditions, including high cholesterol and rheumatoid arthritis. Flaxseed oil is also used to treat anxiety, osteoarthritis, vaginal infections, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), atherosclerosis, dry eyes, heart disease, high blood pressure, ADHD, and diabetes. Flaxseed oil can also be used as a laxative for individuals who struggle with constipation and for individuals who wish to lose weight or prevent breast and prostate cancer.
